Bands that Should Come to Madison… Pretty Please?

The Overture Center recently asked me (and its other 2,932 Facebook friends) who we would like to see perform on their stage. And that got me thinking… Madison is getting the shaft this summer on a lot of tour schedules. All of my favorite Canadian indie bands are touring this summer, and not one of them has a Madison stop. Stars‘ new album, The Five Ghosts, releases on June 22. They play in Chicago on June 9 (already sold out) on their North American tour, but no Madison stop this time. I’ve seen Stars at the Metro in Chicago and at the Barrymore in Madison, both on brutally cold days. Dear Stars, Madison is a whole different city in the summertime! I promise. Did the subzero temperatures scare you away? Aren’t you from Toronto? Rumor has it that it gets cold there, too.

On the heels of its Forgiveness Rock Record, Broken Social Scene is playing at Pitchfork on July 16, and then in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater on October 3, but has no Madison show scheduled. Arcade Fire has a new album coming out August 2, and they are playing Lollapalooza on August 8. Perhaps a low-key Madison show after all the crowds and sweat in Chicago, guys? Hey, bands! Madison is really, really close to Chicago. We love music and we’ve got some cool venues. Don’t forget about us!
