Star-Studded Fall Concerts

I recently did a post whining about how many bands were skipping over Madison this summer. I am happy to declare that things are already looking up for fall. The Stars just announced their fall tour and the Barrymore is once again on their list, with a show scheduled for October 8. Presale tickets are on sale today on their website (got ’em!) and the general release tickets go on sale Friday. Oh, and their new album, The Five Ghosts, was released today, too. I’m listening to my freshly-downloaded copy as I type. If you want to sample before buying, the album is streaming free on NPR’s website. It will probably be taken down sometime today, so be quick. And then buy it! This upcoming show will be my third time seeing the Stars, twice at the Barrymore and once at Chicago’s Metro. I can’t get enough of their haunting, harmonizing vocal duo, Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell.

To add to the autumn excitement, The Walkmen will be at the Barrymore, too, on October 14. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

Although the solstice was yesterday and the days are now (eek!) getting longer, suddenly I’m not dreading the end of summer as much as I usually do…

Please do not ignore that Squeeze will be coming to town as well. Although they will not be joined by Cheap Trick until Columbus (to Bill’s dismay), our fine city should be honored by their visit.
